established as a hotel in 1888, is located in one of the
edgepoints of the ancient roman and medieval Florence. Two thousand years ago a
river-port to Pisa and the sea rose here, and here stopped the barges from the
forests of Casentino carrying the wood to be used in the shipyards for the
masts (hence the name of Piazza delle Travi, the beams). Here the workers of
the Arte della Lana, the Guild of Wool, hang out their clothes.
The Balestri still boasts of the style and the care of the Art of Accommodating, which was a real Florentine guild since the 14th century. The hotel is like a home for the guest, hence his expectations of welcome with his needs. The true hotelier knows that the meeting with a guest is something special.
